If someone asks me who has influenced my life, I usually can’t think of anybody off the top of my head. But if I really think about it four people come to mind, my parents, my uncle and grandparents.
When I was born the first people who influenced how I was as a child was at first my parents and then my grandmother.
My grandma would take care of me as a child while my mom and dad worked. Although I can’t remember too much from that time, it made an impact on me. It built a relationship with my grandma that would last.
As I grew older, my mom started to stay at home and started homeschooling me. She taught me basic life skills like cleaning, laundry and cooking, and helped me to understand stories from the Bible from a young age. Because of that and more, it influenced the way I am, what I liked, my fascination with cooking and what I believed.
Around that same time, my uncle would stay by our house sometimes. He used to play racing video games at night when he thought we kids were asleep. But I wasn’t asleep and I was more curious than anything about what he was doing. That led to him letting me play a few times. That played a big part in my love for gaming, especially racing which then in turn led to my desire to drive.
I remember when I was a little bit older being fascinated with grandfather and his electronics. While he did start my curiosity about electronics, one thing that must have stood out a lot to me was his camera. Around the time I was eleven, he gave me a camera of my own. From there I would take pictures of different things, earn first place and a photography badge for my picture in Pathfinders, and go on to taking a class in photography. It ended up being a hobby that stayed with me.
My dad also played a part in my fascination with cooking, but he had a larger role in helping to foster my interest in sports, especially basketball. That would lead to me also having an interest in athletics in general which I still enjoy today.
Everyone who had an influence on me gave me interests that I continue to pursue as hobbies, or taught me valuable life lessons. But the person who probably has the the most impact on me would be my mom.
Beautiful writing!
